Our dear mother went to be with the Lord on January 4th, 2025. She was one of the strongest, most courageous, and bravest women to ever walk the earth; and our family was blessed to have her for 93 years.

She was the mother of 5 children, Sharon, Marty, Steve, Ralana ,and Greg. She had 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Velma was the daughter of Tuck Noble Monk and Lucinda Jane Monk. She was proceeded in death by her husband of 45 years, Robert L Houston.

She would tell you that her greatest accomplishment in life was her relationship to Jesus Christ, who she came to know as her Lord at the age of 9. Her life was lived in dedication to Him, and her love for him intensified with the baptism of the Holy Spirit at the age of 43. She was not ashamed to ask anybody if they knew Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and if she were here now, she would ask you too.

No words could describe our great loss, and we will miss her, but knowing she has gone to heaven brings great comfort and joy to our hearts. She touched the lives of so many people, and each and everyone will tell of her kindness, unconditional acceptance, and love for all who knew her
