Obituary

Steven Lynn Burkett, 71, passed away on October 14, 2026, in Sherman, Texas.

Steve was born on January 16, 1955, to John and Betty Burkett (née Beard) in Toledo, Ohio. He graduated from Swanton High School in 1973 and went on to attend the University of Toledo and Bowling Green State University, graduating in 1984 with a degree in Business Administration.

Steve worked at Johns Manville in Waterville, Ohio for 27 years. He then worked for several years at Campbell's Soup, Parker Hannifin, and CFI trucking company. Upon retirement, he served as a substitute school teacher at Ridgedale Schools in Marion, Ohio, alongside the love of his life, Sharon Kay Burkett.

Steve's faith was very important to him. He accepted the Lord during his college years when some students challenged his faith to see if it was his own. He went on to strive to raise his kids and live a life honoring God. He always had time if a family member or student needed advice and would lend support to any who asked. He was a devoted father and grandfather, attending as many sporting events, plays, recitals, or any other activity that his kids and grandkids took part in.

Steve always had a smile and a funny joke to share, and he was seldom seen at meals without his emotional support ketchup. He loved the Cleveland Browns, the Red Green show, Napoleon Dynamite, margaritas (nickname: Margarita Steve), and playing bingo and canasta with friends at Asher Point. He married Sharon Kay Burkett on May 28, 2011, in Weatherford, Texas, and they went on to have 11 wonderful years together until her passing on September 13, 2022.

Steve is survived by his children from marriage to Janice (Miller) Burkett: Meghan (Jason) Hughes, Rachel (Ella) Burkett, and Daniel Burkett; grandchildren: Jason Jr. "JJ," Joseph, Juliette, Kason, and Jameson; siblings: Scott (Kathy) Burkett, and Shannon (David) Blessing.

Steve is preceded in death by Sharon Kay Burkett (spouse), Shawn Lamar Burkett (brother), and his parents, John and Betty Burkett.
