Obituary

Shawn Leo Hanley, 52, was born on December 15, 1973, to Gerald and Adrenia Hanley of Dallas, Texas, and received his eternal reward on July 29, 2026.

Shawn was a devoted Christian husband, father, and "Peepaw." He married his high school sweetheart, Laurie, on March 19, 1994, at the young age of 20, and they shared 32 years of marriage together.

He began his career in law enforcement as a jailer with the Mesquite Police Department in 1993, became a police officer in 1995, and went on to serve as a homicide investigator and SWAT sniper before retiring from MPD in 2020. After retirement, he owned a sheet metal business with his uncle, Choya Tapp. A lifelong member of LaPrada Church of Christ in Mesquite, Texas, he became a deacon in 2007 and an elder in 2018. He spent many hours in church work and serving God's people while mentoring many young men and couples. Shawn was an avid duck hunter who shared the joy of it with others, a gun enthusiast, and loved Cajun and Mexican food. He treasured spending time with family and traveling with his wife. Above all, he was a committed servant of Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Laurie Hanley; son, Ethan Hanley and wife Bailey, and their daughter Harper Hanley; daughter, Emma and husband Dalton Steward; mother, Adrenia Hanley; mother-in-law, Ann McFadden; brother, Eric Hanley and wife Corena; sister, Tiffany and husband Terry Cude; sister-in-law, Valerie Mitchell and husband Jamie Mitchell; brother-in-law, Robert Flowers and wife Terri; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends—all of whom he loved and cared for deeply.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Hanley, and brother, Chad Hanley.
