Ft. Gibson
Ruby Jean Maher Smith, age 99, passed away on October 4, 2026, at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas with her daughter at her side.
She was born on April 20, 1972, in Warner, Oklahoma. Ruby lived a long life marked by faith, work, family, and devotion to others. She completed the 10th grade and began her working career at Brockway Glass. In the years that followed, she and her husband, William H. Smith, "Bill", built a life together that included many years of business ownership. They owned and operated the Fort Café for 15 years and Ceramic Korner for 30 years.
On January 3, 1944, Ruby married "Bill, and they shared 65 ½ wonderful years together before his passing in 2009. Their life together was also closely connected to their church and to the faith that guided Ruby throughout her life. Ruby was the oldest member in both age and membership at First Baptist Church. She spent many years teaching children's Sunday school classes and working alongside Bill in guiding youth in their faith. A Christian woman who walked with Jesus every day of her life, Ruby cared deeply for the Lord. It was very important to her that everyone in her family knew the Lord as their personal Savior. She was humble and modest, never boastful or proud, and led by example.
She was gifted in the many things she attempted and enjoyed expressing herself through stained glass, ceramics and painting.
Family meant a great deal to Ruby and she especially treasured every moment of the visits and phone calls she shared with her nieces and nephews. The time she spent with others, whether in conversation, in fellowship, or through her church work, was an important part of her life.
Ruby is remembered by her daughter Paul Morgan and her son-in-law Lynn D. Morgan; her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband "Bill" her brothers, Andy, Roy, Burl, Earl, Cecil and Clarence; and sisters Josephine Brindley and Opal Miller.
Ruby will be deeply missed and forever remembered by the people whose lives she touched. In memory of Ruby memorials may be sent to Franklin Grahams Samaritan's Purse, Charles Stanley's In Touch Ministries, Scottish Rite or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at First Baptist Church in Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma. Ruby will be laid to rest by: Bill at Fort Gibson National Cemetery at 1:30 P.M.
