Pottsboro
Ronald Ray Johnson, age 75, peacefully passed away at his home in Pottsboro, TX, on Saturday, August 19, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 13, 1947, in Dallas, TX, to parents Jewel Ray Johnson and Ruth Pearson Johnson. After attending the University of North Texas, Ronnie married the love of his life, Joyce Minor, in Dallas, TX on March 31, 1967. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from February 5, 1968 to January 26, 1970. He then joined the Dallas Fire Department and retired in 2001, after a fulfilling 33-year career. He was passionate about music and playing guitars, whether being part of a band, with his friends, or with his son. He was an avid golfer, a gifted painter, and found great joy in supporting his grandsons, who affectionately called him 'Hoppy', in their many activities.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 56 years, Joyce Johnson, of Pottsboro, TX, and their son, Eric Johnson and wife Traci, of Denison, TX. He is also fondly remembered by his daughter-in-law, Laura Luque of Ft Worth, TX. Ronnie is further survived by his two brothers, David Johnson and wife Gwen of Canton, TX, and Kim Johnson of Pottsboro, TX. His legacy continues through his three cherished grandchildren: Alex, Garrett, and Cade, and will be dearly missed by a wide circle of extended family and close friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jewel Ray and Ruth Johnson, and his son, Kyle Johnson.
The memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Hagerman Baptist Church. Officiating the service is Pastor Neal Alexander of Hagerman Baptist Church and Pastor Miller Johnson, fellow firefighter and friend of many years.
