Obituary

Rodger Allen McBride

March 23, 1957 - March 31, 2026

Rodger was born in McKinney, Texas to Porter & Dottie (Evans) McBride on March 23, 1957. He was the eighth child, and the seventh son. He grew up alongside his siblings and always recalled fond memories with each of them.

He attended schools in Wichita Falls, Sherman and Denison; but considered Wichita Falls his hometown.

Rodger met Lisa Painter and the two had a brief courtship before they were married on April 14, 1975. He said the moment he laid eyes on her he knew he was going to marry her. Such a crazy thing for a 16-year-old boy to say. That union gifted them 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.   Along with many more, as he was PaPa Rodg to them all.

He had a special bond with each of them, taking time to learn about their particular interests. He was a coach, ballplayer and spectator for many of the kids and grandkids in sports. He and Josh played on many softball teams throughout the years, alongside his brother Ronald & best friend Randy. He was on a softball team with Shawna when she was a teenager. He was there for Tisha's gymnastics. Never missed a game when Jackson was playing ball, even coaching him some years. Attending concerts with Kiara. Watching Jayden & Jaxx play ball. Even though his body was tired, his spirit was young at heart.

Rodger was an avid hunter that loved spending time in the woods with his family.

Summer cookouts, holiday dinners or just a night around the fire pit; Rodger always had his family near. He knew he was blessed to have such a large group & stay so close.

Rodger worked as a plumber, and after two decades he made the decision to change paths. He started his building inspector position with The City of McKinney in the late 90s. He started at the bottom, only able to inspect his field (plumbing), but quickly worked his way up to Lead Inspector capable of inspecting anything. He attended many courses and classes and enjoyed learning more proficient processes. Later in life he decided to slow things down a bit and left The City of McKinney for the position of Assistant Building Official for The City of Denison. There he was able to bring his knowledge to the forefront and help ease burdens on outdated processes. Throughout his career he met a lot of people, and made some lifelong friends.

Rodger was predeceased by his parents: Porter & Dottie McBride. His brothers Jerry, Tommy & Harold, and his only sister Carolyn. His nephews Jimmy McBride Jr, Michael Ray Morrison & Noel Eaton. His nieces Amber & Adelyn Hart. And his Father-in-law and Mother-in-law Bill & Louise (Gregg) Painter.

He is survived by his bride Lisa Charlene McBride. Children: Shawna McBride-Thompson, Joshua Allen McBride and Tisha McBride-Smith. His favorite child: Daughter-in-law Lindsay Sudderth. Grandsons: Kevin Austin Thompson, Shawn Patrick Thompson, Jackson Kyle McBride, Gavin Christopher Jarabek and Dylan Thomas Sullivan. Granddaughters: Kiara Marie Scott and Kyla Juliann McBride. Great-grandsons: Jayden Kyle McBride, Jaxx Kyle McBride, Amari Bryant McBride and Poncho Sage Beck. Great-Granddaughter: McKinley Timber McBride. Bonus grandchildren: Katlin McBride, Kierstan Scott, Rodney Childs and Tre White.

His dogs: Maia, Lightning & Tammi will miss him dearly.

He is also survived by his brothers: Jimmy (Vicky), Shelley (Angela), Ronald (Debbie)and Curtis (Trish). Along with dozens of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles & cousins. Sister-in-law: Rhonda Youngblood & nephew Kris Youngblood. Brother-in-laws: Dennis Gregg (Shirley) and Steve Gregg (Linda). Childhood friend James Estes. And best bud, as it's saved in his phone, Randy Tew. A friendship that has remained for over 40 years.
