Mcnellis
Dec 16, 1934 — Sep 8, 2026
Denison
Rita Joyce Parrish-McNellis was born on December 16, 1934, in Dallas, Texas, to James and Berniece Parrish. She grew up and attended Dallas ISD schools. She worked in the early ministry of A. A. Allen ad as an operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone.
In early 1952 she met Wayland Michael (Mike) McNellis. They were married on July 3, 1952, Mike's 19th birthday, at his parents' home in Dallas. Mike & Rita had three daughters, Catherine, Karen, and Susan, and later welcomed Denise, their niece, into their home.
Rita's faith in God was the guiding force in her life. Her mornings always began with her devotions and prayer time. She was truly a prayer warrior. Her greatest love was for Jesus, followed closely by her family. Rita's generosity and kindness knew no bounds. She expressed her love for her family and friends in a variety of ways.
She served in many areas of First Assembly of God in Denison, actively involved teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, singing in the choir, duets with Mike, and later the Overcomers trio.
Afte Mike's death on May 7, 1991, she began serving senior citizens, visiting them weekly, taking them to doctors' appointments, the grocery store, a drive for a soft drink, or just to get them out of the house. She never talked about this ministry but impacted many seniors and their families with her loving heart.
The Overcomers class held a special place in her heart, and she loved each member like her own family. When she noticed people were missing on Sunday, she wanted them to know they were loved and missed. She began a ministry for the class of sending out cards weekly to individuals who were absent and made sure to include a person personal note to let them know they were in her prayers. She also sent birthday and Christmas cards to a host of family and friends.
Rita adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, praying daily for them to love God, be successful, healthy, loving, and to support others. She was incredibly proud of her family and the strength they shared. She leaves behind her sister, Linda Hardin, her three daughters, Catherine Bucher, Karen (Warren) Donowho, Susan (Mark) Foltermann, and her niece, Denise Hardin and Cecil Cassell. Grandchildren, John (Katie) Bucher, Matt (Jordan) Bucher, Josh Bucher, Brett Donowho, Leah (Phillip) Pacheco, Brice (Mindy) Cassell, Cecily (Ronnie) Smith, 13 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson.
Trinity Lighthouse Church was a source of joy for Rita, and she held her pastor, Raymond England, in high regard. His leadership and guidance had a profound impact on her life.
Rita Joyce Parrish-McNellis's legacy is one of love, faith, and unwavering dedication to her family, friends, and church. Her life was a testament to the power of God's love and the enduring impact of a devoted heart.
