Richard Henry
Ames
Nov 2, 1941 — Jul 31, 2023
Denison
With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to Richard Henry Ames, a beloved soul who touched the lives of many during the time he was with us. Richard was born on November 2, 1941, and passed away on July 31, 2023, after a long battle with cancer.
Richard was a remarkable individual, known for his compassionate spirit and unwavering kindness. He had an infectious smile that could light up any room and a heart of gold that knew no bounds. Throughout his life, Richard was a source of support and comfort to his family and friends.
After school Richard enlisted in the US Air Force and served for four years. After the service he became an accomplished handyman and diesel mechanic. Richard's dedication and passion was evident in every endeavor he pursued. He could fix anything! He made a positive impact on those he worked with, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered for years to come.
Beyond his professional achievements, Richard cherished the simple joys of life. He loved spending time supporting his grandkids and helping them build race cars, he appreciates the sounds of a well-tuned engine. He also loved to hunt and enjoyed slowing down at a campsite and shared these passions with others.
Richard's memory will forever live on in the hearts of his loving family, including his wife of sixty years, Margaret Ames, his children Sheila Jones, Lisa Mullican, and Benjamin Ames, his sister Shirley Demers and Loretta Baker, brother Lenny Ames, 12 grand-children, 16 great grand kids, as well as his many friends and colleagues. He was preceded in death by his mother Cecile Ames, father Benjamin Arthur Ames, sister Joan Rumrill, and brother Ronald Ames. His departure leaves a void that cannot be filled, but we find comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us.
A memorial service to honor Richard's life will be held in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to American Cancer Society in Richard's name, to help others in the fight against this disease.
Let us remember Richard Ames not with tears of sorrow but with gratitude for the cherished memories he gifted us. May he rest in peace, knowing that he made the world a brighter place during his time among us.
