Randall Lee
Keister
Mar 9, 1947 — Nov 19, 2025
Sherman
Randall Lee Keister, age 78, of Luella, Texas, passed away on November 19, 2025. Born on March 9, 1947, in Shippenville, Pennsylvania, to John and Wilda Kapp Keister, Randy lived a life marked by service, creativity, humor, faith, generosity, and deep devotion to his family.
Randy proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, including a tour in Vietnam, and was stationed at Perrin Field. His dedication to his fellow service members and to his country remained a lifelong source of honor and pride.
After completing his service, Randy became a respected Volkswagen mechanic and the proud owner and operator of Randy's Garage in Sherman, Texas. Known for his skill, honesty, and warm personality, he earned the trust and friendship of countless customers over the years.
Randy possessed a creative spirit and an inventor's mind. He was always tinkering, always building or improving something—and he even went viral once for attaching a push mower to a zero-turn mower, a testament to his unique sense of innovation and humor. His hands were rarely still, and his ideas never stopped coming. In retirement, he enjoyed putting gas motor kits on bicycles, giving new life to ordinary rides with his inventive touch.
He had an incredibly generous spirit, always willing to help someone in need—whether fixing a car for someone who couldn't afford it, offering a meal, or simply being there with a listening ear. Helping others came naturally to him, and he gave of himself freely and without hesitation.
Randy had a lifelong love of anything with two wheels. He always had a motorcycle or scooter and spent many days at Cone's Motorcycle Shop, sharing his passion with fellow riders and friends. Riding, tinkering, and dreaming up new projects were a central part of his joy in life.
Music was one of Randy's lifelong passions. A gifted dobro player and devoted fan of bluegrass—especially inspired by his favorite musician, Jerry Douglas—he shared his talent generously. He played at the senior citizens' dance in Denison, many nursing homes, and the Lake Bonham Hoe Down, bringing joy, energy, and comfort to those who listened.
In retirement, Randy also enjoyed the simple pleasures he treasured most: daily trips to Sam's Club, Harbor Freight, and Aldi, followed by daily naps and evenings with Newhart and The Andy Griffith Show. He was always ready with a joke and always able to bring laughter to any room. He loved sharing food with others—especially with his dog Lela, who faithfully received a bite of whatever he was having.
Randy loved his wife, Carla, deeply and faithfully throughout their 42 years of marriage. He was also a man of God, sharing his faith openly with those around him. He was a proud member of Friendship Methodist Church in Sherman, Texas, where he found community, purpose, and joy.
Above all else, Randy was a devoted father. He is survived by his children—twin daughters Amanda and Jessica Keister, daughter Jennifer Hightower, and son Jeff Keister—who carry with them his love, humor, and the many lessons he taught simply by being the man he was.
He is also survived by his grandchildren Dixie, Jase, and Shylee Keister, as well as Sawyer Hightower, and three great-grandchildren. His surviving siblings include: Pat Knight; Jackie Groner; John and Mary Keister; Chuck and Vickie Keister; Tom and Mary Lou Keister; Lindy and Ginger Keister; Nick and Abby Keister; Nancy and Rodney Jeannerat; Dixie and Jeff Wentling; and Jay and Deb Keister.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carla Keister; his parents, John and Wilda Kapp Keister; and his brother, Gary Keister.
Randy will be remembered for his kindness, music, inventive spirit, faith, humor, adventurous heart, and his boundless generosity. His legacy lives on in the songs he played, the rides he enjoyed, the ideas he dreamed up, the stories he told, and the family he loved so deeply.
A memorial service will be held on December 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church in Sherman, Texas, with a reception to follow. All are welcome.
