Patricia "Pat"
Joyce Mitchell
Jan 23, 1948 — Apr 16, 2026
Denison
Patricia Joyce Pointer Mitchell
Patricia "Pat" Joyce Pointer Mitchell, 78, of Denison passed from this life peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
She was born on January 23, 1948, in Sherman, Texas, during what she always fondly referred to as the worst snowstorm in the county, to her parents, WC Pointer and Jacqueline Howdeshell Pointer. Pat was the third of four siblings and began her life in Bells, Texas, before moving to Garland, Texas, in October of 1959.
While attending Garland High School, she met the love of her life, Stephen Austin Mitchell. They were both members of the Garland High School choir. Those who knew Pat often heard the story of how they met, one she loved to share. Pat was a 1966 graduate of Garland High School and briefly attended Harding College.
Pat and Steve were united in marriage in Garland, Texas, on September 13, 1968. The couple later moved to the North Texas area and were blessed with three sons: Jeremy, Cody, and Samuel. The family moved into their home in Denison, Texas, in 1985.
Pat worked several jobs over the years, but her favorite was substitute teaching for Denison ISD. She loved working with children of all ages, as well as the staff who became dear friends.
Steve and Pat continued their love for music by singing in the Villagers Chorale for many years.
Pat loved sharing everything in this life. She had a deep love for animals and would spend hours watching the birds at her back window, always excited to share which birds had visited that day. She never met a stranger. Pat welcomed everyone she met with warmth and kindness, often sharing that her door was always open to anyone who needed it.
Pat was a very loving daughter, sister, wife, and grandmother. She was "Mom" not only to her three sons but also to many of their friends as well. She always told them to call her Mom instead of Mrs. Mitchell.
Pat is survived by her sons, Cody Austin Mitchell of Denison, Samuel Alex Mitchell and wife Andrea of Denison; five grandchildren, Alison Mitchell, Autumn Mitchell, Axel Mitchell, Paisley Mitchell, and Ava Harper and husband Jackson; her brother, Mike Pointer and wife Linda of Garland, Texas; and brother-in-law, Jim Mitchell of Denison; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Austin Mitchell; her parents, WC Pointer and Jacqueline Howdeshell Pointer; her son, Jeremy Mitchell; her sisters, Paula Bradley and June Towles; sister-in-law Marilyn Mitchell; and brothers-in-law John Towles and Richard Bradley.
Pat will be remembered for her love of family, music, nature, and the joy she found in sharing life with others. Her legacy of love, strength, kindness, and hospitality will live on in the lives she touched.
Family night will be held Wednesday, April 22nd from 6:00–8:00 PM at American Funeral Home in Denison, Texas. Funeral service will be Thursday at 11:00 AM at Bells United Methodist Church in Bells, Texas. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews, Randy Mitchell, Tracy Mitchell, Joe Pell, Jay Pointer, Patrick Davis, and James Chatham.
She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved her.
