Ora Della
Woods
Sep 14, 1936 — Jul 13, 2026
Denison
Ora Della Woods, 89, peacefully entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on July 13, 2026, with her son, Michael, by her side.
Born on September 14, 1936, in Mead, Oklahoma, Ora was the daughter of Glenn Wilson Shires and Dorothea Peppers Shires. She was the second oldest of six children and lived a life defined by unwavering faith, a tireless work ethic, and a servant's heart.
Ora accepted Christ as her Savior in 1957 and remained a faithful member of Bible Baptist Church throughout her adult life. Despite a lifelong fear of water, she chose to be baptized in April 2026 by Brother Paul. It was a decision that meant a great deal to her, and her family will always be grateful that she was able to take that step of faith in one of the final chapters of her life.
Ora married Vernon Woods in August 1954, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. Throughout her life, she worked alongside her husband in his construction business, at Levi's, Brabant's Cleaners, later worked at Sam's Club, where she cherished the friendships, she made.
Those who loved Ora knew better than to tell her she couldn't do something. Her determination, strong work ethic, and generous heart carried her through every season of life. She faithfully cared for her husband following his stroke and was always ready to help family, friends, and anyone in need.
Ora found joy in life's simple blessings. She loved baking, especially her strawberry and German chocolate cakes, knitting, arts and crafts, finding a "good bargain," cheering on the Texas Rangers, and spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Even after her eyesight declined, she remained devoted to God's Word by faithfully listening to her Wonder Bible.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Woods; her parents; her daughter, Pam; her grandson, Adam; her brothers, Glen "Pinky" and Gaylon; and her sister, Lynda.
She is survived by her sons, Lee and Michael (Lisa); sister, Janell; brother, Gayle (Kay) ; her grandchildren, Chrissy, Heather, Melissa, April (Nick), Misty (Caleb), Collin, Josh, and Derrick; her great-grandchildren, Bryleigh, Beckett, Paige, Carter, Wyatt, and Jett; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Visitation will be held Sunday, July 19, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at American Funeral Services, 4312 W. Crawford Street, Denison, Texas 75020.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at American Funeral Service, with burial to immediately follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Cemetery in Sherman.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life immediately following the graveside service, at approximately 12:00 p.m., at 4344 N. Loy Lake Road, Sherman, Texas 75092. A light lunch will be provided.
