Minnie Faye Gerdes, age 82, of Pottsboro, Texas, peacefully passed away on August 7th, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and dedicated hairdresser, Minnie devoted her life to her family and her craft, leaving behind a legacy of love and care.

Minnie met the love of her life, Gary Dean Gerdes, when she was just 14 years old, and it was love at first sight. The two married on May 26th, 1957, and embarked on a journey together that spanned 56 years. Throughout their marriage, they lived in various places across West Texas, following Gary's career in law enforcement, until they finally settled in Pottsboro. Wherever they went, Minnie brought her hairdressing skills and her passion for crafting, which brought her immense joy and fulfillment.

Minnie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gary Dean Gerdes; her cherished son, Bobby Darryl Gerdes; her daughter-in-law, Deborah Fowler Gerdes; her grandson, Bobby Jay Gerdes; and several brothers and sisters. Their memories will forever be cherished by those she leaves behind.

She is survived by her older brother, David Mansell, and his wife Mary; her devoted daughter, Cathy Deann Gerdes Downtain, and husband Donnie Snider; her daughter-in-law, Diane Gerdes; and her grandchildren, Spring Thompson, Zach Downtain, Josh Downtain, and Danielle Downtain. Minnie was also blessed with several great-grandchildren and cherished her many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Minnie's life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and dedication. Her warm smile and caring nature touched the lives of many across West Texas, the Pottsboro community, and beyond. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service to celebrate Minnie's life will be held on Monday, August 12, at American Funeral Services, 4312 W Crawford St, Denison, TX. The service will begin at 11:00 am, with a Family Visitation starting at 10:00 am. We will then proceed to Hagerman Cemetery in Pottsboro for a Graveside Service.
