Mildred Burris Moore
October 31, 1921-September 15, 2026
Mildred Burris Moore, beloved mother, Mamaw, and faithful servant of her Lord, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2026, at the age of 104.
Born on October 31, 1921, Mildred lived a remarkable life spanning more than a century. Her 104 years were a testimony to the faithfulness and provision of her loving Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved her family deeply and leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, kindness and love that will continue through the generations who follow her.
Mildred was a longtime and faithful member of First Baptist Church in Savoy, Texas, where she served her church family in countless ways. For more than 50 years, she faithfully served as the church janitor, quietly caring for the place she loved and making sure it was ready to welcome others each week. Her service was never about recognition; it was simply an expression of her love for the Lord and His church.
Mildred also spent many years teaching the four - and five-year old Sunday School class at First Baptist Church. She taught countless children about Jesus, planting seeds of faith in your hearts that became part of her lasting legacy to those children, she was affectionately known as "Miss Mildred." Generations of children knew her, loved her, and were blessed by her gentle presence, loving heart, and faithful teaching.
To her family, Mildred was much more than a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was Mamaw--a source of love, wisdom, strength, and faith. Oen of the great blessings of her long life was four generations of her family grow.
Saturday was family day at Mamaw's house. Week after week, her home became a gathering place where family came together around her home-cooked meals, played games, shared stories, and simply enjoyed being together in her living room. Those ordinary Saturdays became extraordinary memories-moments of laughter, love, and connection that her family will treasure for generations to come. Her home was more than a house; it was a place where family belonged.
She is survived by her son, Billy Jack Moore, and her daughter, Dorothy Jean Tillery; grandchildren Yalonda and Jackie Ivers, Kevin and Shonda Cannon, Matt Moore, and Jim Bob and Alice Bradley; great-grandchildren J. Q. Ivers, Bailey and George Guffee, J.C. and Ruthie Ivers, Tyler and Lexi Cannon, J.T. Ivers, Haylee Cannon, James Wallace Bradley, and Everett Boggus Bradley; and great-great-grandchildren Winter and Titus Ivers, Stella Guffee, and Gracie and Ellie Cannon. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Cecil Moore; her son-in-law, Youndley Quay Tillery; her grandson, Marc Moore; her parents, Everett and Pearl Burris; her brother, Lamar Burris; and her sister-in-law, Louise Burris.
Mildred's life was long, but more importantly, it was well lived. She faithfully served her Savior, loved her family, taught children about Jesus, and gave more than five decades of service to her church. Her earthily journey is now complete, and we rejoice in the promise that she is home with the Savior she lived and served so faithfully.
