Obituary

Michael Alan Pike

Michael Alan Pike, 73, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026, in McKinney, Texas, surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mike was born on October 29, 1952, in Brownfield, Texas, to Alan and Beverly Pike. He was raised in Metairie, Louisiana, where he attended Sam Barthe Private School and quickly distinguished himself as an exceptional athlete. He earned All-State honors in both football and baseball, accomplishments that led to a full football scholarship to Louisiana State University.

At LSU, Mike was a standout safety for one of the nation's premier football programs. He proudly wore the Purple and Gold as a starting defensive back and was a member of the Tigers team that played in the 1974 Orange Bowl. The friendships he built with his teammates during those years remained among the most treasured relationships of his life. Anyone who knew Mike knew that LSU football held a special place in his heart.

While at LSU, Mike met Nancy Brooks, an LSU Golden Girl who would become the love of his life. They were married on April 6, 1974, beginning a marriage of 52 years built on unwavering love, faith, and devotion to family.

In 1976, Mike and Nancy moved to Denison, Texas, where Mike began his career as a football coach with Denison ISD. He later joined the family business, Jim Brooks Oldsmobile-Cadillac, before eventually returning to Denison ISD, where he finished his career.

Mike and Nancy made Denison their home, where they raised their two children, Nate and Erin, who were the pride and joy of his life. The family were faithful members of First Baptist Church of Denison, where Mike surrendered his life to Jesus Christ and lived out his faith with quiet strength and humility.

Mike had a larger-than-life personality, a quick wit, and a wonderful sense of humor that could brighten any room. Though he was known for his toughness and determination, those closest to him knew he possessed an incredibly tender heart. His loyalty to his family and friends never wavered, and he formed lifelong friendships everywhere he went.

After losing his parents at a young age, Mike was blessed with a special relationship with his father-in-law, Jim Brooks, who became like a father to him. Jim introduced Mike to hunting and fishing, traditions that became cherished annual adventures each fall on deer leases across Texas with many friends from Denison. Those trips created countless memories that Mike treasured throughout his life.

A few years before retirement, Mike and Nancy moved to McKinney, Texas, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Of all the roles he held throughout his life—athlete, coach, businessman, husband, and father—his favorite was being "Grandpa." Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his grandchildren, encouraging them, laughing with them, and cheering them on.
Mike will be remembered for his strength, his kindness, his unwavering faith, his love for his family, and his fierce loyalty to his friends. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, the family he loved so deeply, and the example of integrity, perseverance, and faith that he leaves behind.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Nancy Pike of McKinney, Texas; his son, Nate Pike and wife, Lacey, of Prosper, Texas; his daughter, Erin Pike Blair and husband, Brian, of Tyler, Texas; his grandchildren, William Blair, Hannah Blair, Peyton Smith, and Addison Pike; his brother-in-law, Vance Levesque of New Orleans, Louisiana; his sisters-in-law, Sandra Hayden of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Mary Moak of Magnolia, Mississippi; his brother-in-law, Bryan Whittington of Frisco, Texas; his nephews, Derek Levesque and Bubba Moak; his nieces, Stacey Levesque Park, Leslie Levesque, Stephanie Sanez, and Bailee Whittington; and his lifelong friend, Mark Carpenter, whose family helped raise Mike during his high school years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alan and Beverly Pike; his beloved sister, Donna Levesque; his father-in-law, Jim Brooks; his mother-in-law, Maxine Brooks; his brother-in-law, Charles Bruce Moak; his brother-in-law, Rusty Brooks; his sister-in-law, Tammy Whittington; and his niece, Ashley Brooks.
