Mary Jo (McPhail) Matlock of Colbert, OK passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 peacefully at home with her family by her side at age 91 years, 7 months, 3 days.

Mary Jo was born March 20, 1933 in Oklahoma City to John Alvin McPhail and Grace Sears McPhail. She attended Kemp School and OKC Central High School as well as Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

She married Herb Matlock on June 14, 1950 in Oklahoma City. They had four sons;  Michael, Randall, Gregory and Terry.  She greatly enjoyed cooking and  gardening, birdwatching and crafts. Her passion was taking care of her family. Mary Jo fully enveloped and took pride in being a "housewife".

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Valliant, OK until extended age and health made it necessary for her and Herb to relocate to Colbert to be close to family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sons Mike and Randy Matlock, brothers Jesse Alvin McPhail, Coleman "Buck" McPhail, Gerald McPhail and sister Mattie McPhail Chessier.

She is survived by her husband of 74 years, Herb, and sons Greg, of Mena Arkansas, Terry and wife Kerrey, of Colbert, OK. Grandchildren Jeremy and wife Jessica of Midland, TX; Amy and husband Mike, of Waldorf, MD, Trevor and wife Bailee of Colbert, OK; Taylor and wife Miranda of Bennington, OK; Kerrigan and husband Daniel of Colbert, OK. Seven great- grandchildren, Jon, Preston, Bryce, Josh, Adeline, Brian and Creedyn. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A family visitation will be held Friday, October 25 from 6-7 p.m. at the American Chapel Service in Colbert, Ok and a graveside celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 9, at 1 p.m. at the Garvin Cemetery, Garvin, Oklahoma.
