Marilyn Taylor-Hackworth
Mitchell
Jan 3, 1942 — Jun 3, 2024
Denison
Marilyn Taylor Hackworth Mitchell was born on January 3, 1942, in Denison, Texas, to William N. Taylor and Mandy Blankenship Taylor. She passed from this life on Monday, June 3, 2024, at the age of 82 years.
She graduated from Kemp High School in Kemp, Oklahoma in 1959. She married Jimmy Paul Hackworth on September 5, 1959, who preceded her in death on March 26, 1990. She then married James ("Jim") Wayne Mitchell on February 14, 1993, in Edmond, Oklahoma. After she married, she made her home in Denison, Texas, and worked at Texas Instruments until her retirement after 30 years of service. However, her most important jobs were that of being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an upstanding Christian woman and her faith and love of God was shown in everything she did. She always tried to be a Christian example to her family and those around her. She loved cooking, sewing, crocheting, quilting, gardening, working puzzles, playing games, and her most recent venture was that of art. Some of her happiest moments were cooking Sunday lunch for her children and grandchildren, whom she cherished. She was always the first to give a helping hand to anyone in need. If you ever said "I need to paint a room," she would never fail to show up with paint brush in hand. She played basketball in high school and continued her love of the game up until her death. She always enjoyed watching March Madness, but more than that she enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren play ball of any kind, whether it be basketball, softball, baseball, or football. She also enjoyed shooting hoops with the kids and grandkids. Sunday afternoon Wahoo games with the kids and grandkids became a ritual and were moments that she treasured. She also loved playing dominoes and card games after Sunday worship with her church family. As a true servant, she taught bible classes for many years, usually the baby or toddler classes and she worked many hours as a volunteer beginning with the PTA when her children went to school at Raynal Elementary School. Then after retiring, she began volunteering for Texoma Medical Center Auxiliary, where she made baby banners, flower arrangements and worked on the window displays in the gift shop. She also made teddy bears that were given to children when they came through the emergency room.
When her husband, Jim, began preaching at the Colbert Church of Christ, she would attend services with him and would always give words of encouragement before and after the lessons. She had previously attended Central Church of Christ in Denison, Texas, and still considered it to be her church home.
She is survived by her husband, James W. Mitchell of Denison, Texas, her three children, Randall Paul Hackworth and wife, Pam of Denison, Texas, Teresa Gail Hackworth LeDane of Luella, Texas, Brian Keith Hackworth and wife, Tyra of Sherman, Texas, her stepchildren, Randy Mitchell and wife, Alynn and Tracy Mitchell; her six grandchildren, Christopher Ryan Hackworth and wife, Jessica of Pottsboro, Texas, Amanda LeDane Francis and husband, Corby of Whitewright, Texas, William Bradley LeDane of Luella, Texas, Jordan Paul LeDane of Luella, Texas, Nathaniel Paul Hackworth and wife, Kaydee of Sherman, Texas, and Nicholas Keith Hackworth of Sherman, Texas; and her four great grandchildren, Cathryn Jane Hackworth, Deacon Ryan Hackworth, Everett Taylor Hackworth, and Henry Anson Francis. She is also survived by siblings, Donald Taylor, William Taylor and Lawanda Duckworth and husband, Bill, her brother-in-law, Steve Mitchell and wife, Pat. Numerous nieces and nephews, whom she was lovingly known to as "Aunt Mert." She was a true definition of the word servant and was a loving wife, mother, and Nanny (Nano).
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mandy Taylor, her first husband, Jimmy Hackworth, her son-in-law, William Edward LeDane, and 13 brothers and sisters.
The pallbearers will be her grandsons, Chris Hackworth, Brad LeDane, Jordan LeDane, Nathan Hackworth, Nicholas Hackworth and Corby Francis.
