Lois Chattie
Huffman
Sep 27, 1931 — Mar 10, 2025
Calera
Lois Chattie Huffman passed on March 10, 2025, at the age of 93.
Chattie was born September 27, 1931, to William Emmett Dennis and Lillian Dennis, in Ladonia, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Charles Huffman, her parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister. She is survived by her children, Travis Huffman of Calera, OK, Barbara Hardee and her spouse, Jimmy Don Hardee, of Holiday Island, AR and Dennis Charles Huffman and his spouse, Charlotte Huffman of Atlanta, Texas, her sister Elise Nichols, of Greenbrier, AR. She was blessed to have 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 1 great- great grandchild. She is also survived by her fur baby, Aspen.
Chattie and Henry were married on June 19, 1948. They met in Waldo, AR. at the café where she worked. He not only got a cup of coffee for five cents, but a lovely lady he spent 50 years with.
Chattie was a member of the Calera Church of Christ. She loved this church and the people who worshiped there. The thing she loved the most was the singing. She always said that the members of the church sang with joy in their hearts.
Chattie lived the greatest part of her life in Arkansas. She went to school in Walkerville, AR and graduated the 8th grade. Chattie was a child of the depression era, and she hated to throw anything away. She was an avid reader, seamstress, loved to crochet, but most of all she loved to tell her children what to do and how to do it. She loved to cook for her family and friends. She made wonderful cinnamon rolls and great fried chicken. Oh, and her homemade syrup. If you knew our mother, one new that she voiced her opinion, and she would point and shake her index finger at you and let you know all about it. If you look up the word ornery, you have met Chattie. She loved her Razorbacks!
Chattie worked as a homemaker, factory work for Firestone, in Magnolia, AR, she worked in retail, and a school cafeteria worker in Fort Smith, AR. The job she loved the most was caretaker. Chattie took pride in being a caretaker. She took care of her husband and her brother, who had Down Syndrome. When she moved in with Travis, she helped take care of his sweet wife, Linda. Chattie would have made a wonderful nurse.
In lieu of flowers, we request that a donation be made to Downsyndrome.org.
