Obituary

LeRoy "Roy" Theodore Schaffer was born on June 22, 1939 and passed from this world on November 5, 2023 after a brief illness. Roy grew up in Northeast Minneapolis and lived there while courting his first wife Julie (Judy) Farrington. They married in November 1964 and by October 1965 their daughter Lisa was born. In May 1968, their son Terrance was born. They settled in Coon Rapids, MN and lived there for many years until his retirement.

In January of 2005 Julie died suddenly, and Roy poured his time and energy into his local community. A long-term active member of UAW, Roy had always felt pulled to work with others that shared his concerns about our government and his community. "Politics" was his life!

Roy eventually met his 2nd wife Judy Hughes. Judy was Roy's second chance at love and they both took the plunge for a new life together and were married in 2014. Few people find one great love in their lives, Roy was blessed to have two!

Roy loved to work on his yard, fishing and to be outdoors in general enjoying nature. He was a fierce player of Croquet and other outdoor games. He was an avid studier of military history, his favorite era being WWII. He would reenact historical battles with miniature's with his Son Terrance and his Friends, or play military board games throughout history.

Roy will be remembered for living his life his own way, by his deep laugh, quirky sense of humor, his indefatigable work ethic and his devotion to his wife, his children and his only grand-daughter Zahreen.

Roy is survived by his wife Judy Schaffer, daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Geoffrey Schaffer-Harris, son and daughter-in-law, Terrance and Diane Schaffer and his grand-daughter, Zahreen Taj Schaffer-Harris. He is preceded in death by his 1st wife Julie (Farrington) Schaffer, Brother John Schaffer, and his parents Theodore and Verena (Potvin) Schaffer.

A small Celebration of Life will be held by a few close family members and friends on December 9th.
