Leroy Arnold Champion
September 25, 1944 – May 5, 2026
Leroy Arnold Champion, 81, passed away on May 5, 2026. Born on September 25, 1944, Leroy lived a life defined by service, dedication, and an immense love for his family.
A very proud United States Navy Veteran, Leroy served as a Nuclear Engineer aboard the USS Halibut and USS Benjamin Franklin, and later as a Naval Instructor at Treasure Island, California — a career that reflected his intelligence, discipline, and unwavering commitment to his country. After his service, he carried those same qualities into every aspect of his life — as a devoted husband, father, Papa, and friend.
Leroy had a passion for the game of golf, but nothing brought him greater joy than time spent with the people he loved most. Known affectionately as "Papa" by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was a steady, loving presence whose memory will be cherished for generations.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Champion; his daughter Kristina Peters and her husband Rodney Peters, and their six daughters: Kayla, Lindsay, and Megan; Brittnie and her husband Kenneth Alphin and their children Rhett, Joshua, and Samuel; Ashley and her husband Alex Giles and their children Logan and Hudson; and Courtney and her husband James Paul Dooley and their daughter Emma; his daughter Anne Champion and her partner Robert Moore Jr.; and his sisters Janet, Doreen, Carla, and Rose Ann.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ann Burnett Olsen; his father, James Elmer Champion; and his brothers, Dennis, Lee, and Tommy.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 11:30 AM at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, where Leroy will be laid to rest with the full honor and dignity his service to this nation deserves.
Dedicated husband, father, Papa, and friend — he will be forever missed.
