John Howard
Adler
Oct 22, 1937 — Feb 10, 2024
Gordonville
John Howard (Jack) Adler passed away peacefully on February 10, 2024, in Sherman, Texas. Born October 22, 1937, in Elgin Illinois, he was the youngest child of John and Frieda Adler. He enjoyed an idyllic childhood, growing up on Grosse Ile Island in Michigan, with his horse Major and his dog Tippy.
He attended college prep school, St. John's Military Academy in Delafield, Wisconsin. He graduated from Valparaiso University in 1960, where he met his first wife Bonnie. They married in 1961, had two children, and moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1971, where he continued his career in sales and ultimately founded several successful construction companies.
After Bonnie's death in 1988, he married his loving wife Donna and they moved to the Gainesville Boat Club in 1994. They greatly enjoyed life in the boat club and were also active members in the Presbyterian Church in Gordonville for three decades.
Jack lived life to the fullest and enjoyed many hobbies including guns, coins, cars, and traveling to many exotic destinations. He especially enjoyed spending time with family at his second home on Cape Breton Island where he quickly made friends and became known as "Texas Jack". He adored his children, loved his in-laws as his own, and took immense pride in his grandchildren with whom he never hesitated to share his love of Jesus and important life lessons. His grandchildren enjoyed boating, swimming, fishing, and rides in his classic cars with their number one fan, Pa.
Jack was preceded in death by his first wife Bonnie, his brothers Dale and Glenn, his sister Carol Long, and his stepdaughter Stephanie Hart.
He is survived by his wife of more than 30 years, Donna, as well as his children Karen (Jeff) McDonald, John (Katherine) Adler, and stepson Jim (Nance) Lovell, along with 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral service, Friday, February 16, 1 p.m., Sherwood Shores Chapel, 969 Hillcrest Circle, Gordonville, Texas. Interment at Cedar Mills Cemetery, Gordonville, Texas.
