Obituary

Janet Marie Gilbreath, age 74, of Sherman, TX, passed away peacefully at Carrus Hospital on Friday, February 23, 2024.  Janet was born on May 18, 1949 in Oakland, CA to Leonard Sylvester Ustaszewski and Suzanna Kathleen Dicker Ustaszewski. She was a High School graduate and attained her Master's Degree.  She will be greatly missed by her loving family and many friends.

Janet was a lifelong volunteer and servant to her communities no matter where she was residing. From the hundreds of quilts that she made for St. Jude's Children's Hospital, to 25 years volunteering with the AARP/IRS program performing free tax services for the elderly and indigent, or being a Rocking Mama for Cooks Children's Hospital in the NICU unit. When she relocated to Sherman four and a half years ago she began volunteering at TMC. She did everything from working in the gift shop, to sewing over 800 pillowcases for Labor and Delivery, and also making pillows for the Heart Mender program. She even started the Elf Choir for added holiday cheer at the hospital. Janet has been serving as the Vice President of the TMC Volunteers Association and was the current President Elect.

Left to cherish her memory is her family; Suzette Gilbreath Staats, daughter, Gary Staats-son in Law (husband of Suzette), Jake Staats-grandson.  Stephen Gilbreath-Son, (Debra wife of Stephen), Ryan Gilbreath-grandson.  Alek Ustaszewski-brother, sister; Ann Cathroe, other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother; Leonard and Susanna Ustaszewski.

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, located at 314 N. Rusk Ave., Denison, TX 75020, followed by a lunch hosted by the family at The North Rig Grill, 414 US-75, Denison, TX 75020.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The American Cancer Society and St. Jude's Children's Hospital in memory of Janet Marie Gilbreath. Janet's legacy of service and compassion will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
