James A.
Passmore
Mar 17, 1942 — Oct 16, 2024
Collinsville
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Retired Army Colonel James A Passmore M.D. was called home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 16, 2024. James, humbly known by most as Jim, born on March 17, 1942, spent 82 years building a legacy of love, service, and unwavering faith that will resonate within the hearts of his family, friends, colleagues, and patients, for generations to come.
Jim regarded his relationships here on Earth as extensions of his Christian faith, and through so, was an ever-devoted husband to the love of his life, Mindy Passmore. He was a loving father to Michael Passmore, Rebekah Kunce, and a father in all ways that matter to his stepchildren, Arthur Nieuwoudt, Lynette Sullivan, and Patrick Sullivan. His legacy is further enriched by his nine grandchildren, all of whom he cherished deeply. He is also survived by his beloved sisters, Beverly Jamison and D'Juanna Jackson, with whom he shared many memories and much laughter.
A true patriot, Retired Colonel Passmore served his country with honor in the United States Army. His commitment to service was evident as he took on the vital role of Flight Surgeon in Vietnam and ran a military hospital near the front lines during the First Gulf War. His dedication did not go unnoticed; he retired with the rank of Colonel, having received numerous honors, including the Bronze Star Medal for his heroic and meritorious service in a combat zone. However, it was not the accolades that defined him, but his spirit of servitude and commitment to helping others, that followed him in the years after his military career.
Jim lived by the words of Scripture: "But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant," Matthew 23:11. This was a guiding principle throughout his life. He was an incredibly simple man, who had an innate ability to connect with people, offering kindness and compassion to all he encountered. In his years serving as an Ophthalmologist, Jim served his patients until the end of his life with love and integrity, embodying the values he held dear.
His faith was the foundation of his life. A man of deep conviction, he walked the talk, striving to serve others, love unconditionally, and refrain from judgment. His love for God shone through in every action, every word of encouragement, and every gesture of kindness he shared. His friends and family often remarked on his capacity for empathy and his unwavering support for those in need.
Jim's impact on the lives of those around him cannot be overstated. He was a mentor, a friend, and a guiding light to many. As we remember him, we celebrate a well-lived life, filled with purpose, love, and an unyielding dedication to service.
As we say our goodbyes, we find solace in knowing that Jim's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. His family asks that you join them in honoring his memory by embracing his legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith to each other, as much as to the strangers you meet out on the street.
"A Celebration of Life" for Jim will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024 from 6-8PM at the American Funeral Service located at 4312 W. Crawford St. Denison, TX. Jim's family, friends, colleagues, and all who loved him, are welcome to come honor him with us. Please have any flowers delivered to this address on Monday.
An honorary military burial will be at Dallas National Cemetery, at 10AM, Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a Veterans organization of your choice in Jim's honor, continuing the service he cherished so deeply.
