Obituary

James "Jim" Alan Gassaway, age 67, of Denison, TX, died at Texoma Medical Center, Denison, TX. on July 6, 2025.  He was born December 14, 1957 in Brownsville, TX. to James and Martha Mobley Gassaway.  Jim had a zest and sense of adventure combined with a prankish dry humor that kept those close to him amused and entertained. He always lit up a room with his antics and endeared those around him with his playful demeanor and musical talents. He was an avid golfer, photographer and musician who could barbecue the most delicious food. Some of Jim's favorite past times were camping and fishing with family, biking and travel.  You could always find him in attendance at concerts, grandchildren's sporting events, functions at his alma mater, East Texas A & M (where he was a proud PIKE), and any gathering where friends and fun were expected.

He is survived by his two sisters; Mindy Tayrien and her husband Doug of Tulsa, OK. along with their children Jenna and Carson, Cindy McDonald of Cedar Park, TX. with her children Mike, Kevin, and Rob; daughter Brittany and husband Kevin Wrenn with their children Rome, Cameron, and Keileke; daughter Kayla Vega and children Kawa Jr. and Jayden and his former wife Ginger Berry. Also mourning the loss of Jim is his long-time companion, Terri Poet; her daughter Jasara and husband Cody Russell with their children Cade and Gabby; and son Jeremy and his wife Hannah Poet with their son Preston. Jim had a very large and beloved extended family and a wealth of friends with whom he had many adventures together who feel the loss of him greatly.

Jim was a man of faith and will no doubt be reunited with all his loved ones that passed before him.

His last request was to be cremated and have no memorial service although he did say he would like to have his ashes scattered on Mars (a jokester to the end).

Jim, you are a bond unbroken by time, a presence missed in everyway.—Forever in our Hearts
