Obituary

Gary Donald Sales Sr. of Denison, Texas passed away March 19, 2023 at the age of 70. He was born on October 12, 1952 in Dallas, TX to James Travis Sales Sr. and Leola Sales.

Gary was the middle child of his siblings, Travis Sales Jr. and David Sales. He spent most of his childhood and early adult years growing up in Farmers Branch and the North Texas area, where he loved hunting and spending time outside (as any young boy would).

If you knew Gary, you knew that no matter where he was, he could always make a friend. Whether it was because of his 10 years traveling around the country as a commercial truck driver or because he spent a majority of his working life on construction sites, Gary made an effort to get to know people everywhere he went. His personable nature also shined through to his family, and it became one of the things they loved most about him. His family would always joke that if they walked into a restaurant or store, there would at least be someone in there who knew of Gary Sales. His wife Connie could especially attest to that. The two of them met at a little café in Pascagoula, Mississippi, and hit it off like they'd known each other their whole lives. His charm and personality was unmatched.

Gary was a devoted husband to Connie for 41 years, and together they blended and grew their family beyond their wildest dreams. Not only did Gary love spending time with his immediate family, but he also extended that love to many adopted children that he and Connie took in and raised. He had a lot of love to give, and he was ready to share it with those who needed it most.

Some of his family's favorite memories with him include joint birthday parties with his granddaughter, breakfast at TNT Café with his family, searching for "gold" around his land, celebrating milestones like graduations and weddings, trips to the fair, attending his grandchildren's basketball and baseball games, playing cars with his sweet Bentley, and listening to the many elaborate stories he loved to tell. Through any hardships, sickness, or obstacle that came his way, he pushed on so he could make sure he was there for his family.

Not only was he a great husband, father, Papa, and friend, but he was a fighter. And up until his final days, Gary proved that he was, and will always be remembered as, someone who wouldn't go down without a fight. In the eyes of his family—specifically his grandkids—he hung the moon. Any time we look up at the sky from now on, we'll remember the wonderful, strong, fearless, and kind man that was Gary Sales.

Gary is survived by his wife, Connie Sales; adopted son/grandson, Bentley Sales. daughters, Michelle Boyd and husband, Jeff; Tandee Bywater; and Mecom Beach; adopted daughters Debi Ann Hyman and husband, Rick; and Tosha Roe; sons, Heath Cooper and wife Marie; Gary (Donnie) Sales II.; grandchildren, Jae Plotke and wife, Des; Kayleigh Hansen and husband, Kameren; Cody Mihay and wife, Shelbi; Kyrin Beach; Mylie Beach; Alex Boyd; Alyssa Boyd; Emory Cooper; Marissa Cooper Aubri Moore; Makayla Lara; Cherish Sales; and Micah Sanchez; great-granddaughters Maddi and Isabelle Mihay; brothers, Travis Sales Jr. and wife, Sherry; David Sales and wife, Leticia; and many other family and friends that loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Travis Sales Sr. and Leola Sales.
