Erik Black Cowand, age 58, of Gainesville, TX, passed away at Texoma Medical Center, Denison, TX on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.  Erik was born on February 9, 1964 to Glen Lyle Cowand & Joel Wolfe Cowand in New Orleans, LA.  He was a High school graduate with a Masters Degree in Theology.  He was employed by Walgreens.

Erik had several hobbies. He spent time reading Theology books and he enjoyed hot wheels and star trek.  He was a Christian and a member of Denton Primitive Baptist Church in Denton, TX.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife; Wanda Cowand of Gainesville, TX, his children; Jonathan Rodgers & Leigh of Katy, TX, Heather Lee Ann Lacy & Robert of Spring, TX, three brothers; Glen Lyle Cowand JR of Texas, Scott Cowand & Amy of Woodlands, TX, Craig Cowand of Katy, TX, niece; Danyelle Rodgers of Texas four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Glen & Joel Cowand.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 30, 2023, 3:00 P.M. at American Funeral Service Chapel, 4312 Crawford St, Denison, TX with Elder Thomas McDonald and Elder Elmo Griffin officiating.  Interment will be at Georgetown Cemetery, Pottsboro, TX.  Family and friends visitation will be one hour prior to the service, 2:00 P.M.
