Obituary

Donald (Donnie) Edward Matthews, 77, of Myra went to be with our Lord and Savior on

December 14, 2024. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones at his residence in Myra, TX. Donnie was born on July 1, 1947 in Muenster, TX to Clarence Ross and Maggie Elizabeth(Huddleston) Matthews. Donnie lived a rich and full life with love and dedication to our Lord, his family and friends.

Donnie graduated from Era High School in 1965. In his younger years, he loved travelling the country side, enjoyed camping, lead singing at Myra Baptist Church, and spending time with family and friends. He also loved racing cars and motorcycles with his cousin Ronnie. They enjoyed countless hours racing, rebuilding and racing again.

Donnie met his beautiful wife Peggy Sue Jarrell through his sister. But it wasn't until some family members kept arranging chance encounters, that he finally gathered the courage to ask her out. Donnie and Peggy soon got married on January 31, 1976. They enjoyed 48 years of marriage.

Donnie's life was a testament of selfless love and sacrifice to ensure all of his family and friends felt special.  Whether if it was woodworking, camping, fishing, writing music, trips to the mountains, or walks along the creek bed looking for arrowheads, he enjoyed a full life.  He always brought out the best in folks. His relationship with Christ was a living testimony of how he led his life.

Donnie was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in whatever sport or activity they were involved in, especially basketball or track. He taught them to always do their best at whatever they were doing. He enjoyed spending time with family and working outside. He taught his children and grandchildren to appreciate the little things and to work hard for the things they wanted or needed.

Donnie is survived by his wife Peggy, son Jeremy and daughter Angela.   Three granddaughters, Chloe Voth and Husband Ethan, Cadence (Cady) Matthews and Cha'risa Johnson, all of Myra.
