Debra Kay
Carter
Sep 5, 1960 — Jan 29, 2026
BELLS
Debra Kay Carter, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed from this world on Thursday January 29, 2026, peacefully, surrounded by the family she held closest to her heart. Her life was a testament to love, faith, and the quiet strength of a soul who walked with God and lived with purpose.
Born on September 5, 1960, in Madrid, Spain, to James and Jewel Carter, Debra grew up in Bells, Texas, where she blossomed into a woman of warmth, grace, and unwavering devotion. She graduated from Bells High School in 1980, carrying forward a spirit of curiosity, courage, and a heart that found joy in every connection she made.
For many years, Debra devoted herself to her career at Texas Instruments in Sherman, Texas, where she was known not only for her diligence and professionalism but for the kindness, she extended effortlessly to everyone around her. Yet it was within her home and family that her soul truly flourished. As a devoted wife, loving mother, tender grandmother, and sister she poured her heart into her family with a generosity that knew no bounds. She guided, nurtured, and encouraged her daughter and grandsons, offering a steadfast love that was at once gentle and enduring. Her home was a sanctuary, a place where laughter lingered, stories were shared, and hearts were held safe.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Carter, and is survived by her significant other, Enrique Miranda; her mother, Jewel Carter; her brothers, Tommy Carter and wife Ellen, Larry Carter and wife Rose, and Randy Carter and wife Christie; her sister, Jeanie Slaughter and husband Kevin; her daughter, Amanda Smith and husband Joe Paul; and her treasured grandsons, Braydon Smith, Austin Brown, Laydon Smith, and Jackson Brown. She is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends whose lives were brighter for having known her.
Debra lived a life full of love, faith, and devotion. She gave so much of herself to others, and her impact can be seen in the lives she touched and the love she leaves behind. While we miss her deeply, her spirit, her kindness, and her love will always remain with us. She now rests in God's eternal embrace, where joy is complete, and peace knows no end.
