Billy Carl
Henry
Oct 21, 1936 — Aug 25, 2025
Sadler
Billy Carl "Bill" Henry, 88, of Sadler, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025, in Sadler. Born on October 21, 1936, in Llano, Texas, Bill lived a life marked by devotion to family, unwavering work ethic, and deep faith.
Bill's early years were filled with the kind of childhood adventures that only the Texas Hill Country could offer. He roamed the creeks and tributaries of the Llano River basin with his friends, playing cowboys and Indians and searching for buried treasure. They hunted deer with handmade bows fashioned from willow branches—more play than pursuit—but these moments were cherished memories of simpler times.
At just 15 years old, Bill left school at the end of his seventh-grade year to help support his family. He began working alongside his father in an auto body shop, a decision that marked the beginning of a lifelong dedication to hands-on work and providing for others. When the family moved to Pampa two years later in search of better opportunities, Bill found his calling as an appliance repair apprentice. He quickly developed a reputation for his skill and determination—"I can fix it!" became his signature phrase.
While in Pampa, Bill met Charlotte Mangel, the love of his life. They were married on June 12, 1956, in Wheeler County, Texas. Their marriage spanned nearly six decades until Charlotte's passing in 2015. Together they built a life centered on love, faith, and family. It was also during their time in Pampa that they formed a lifelong friendship with Clarence and Erma Reeves.
In 1969, Bill and Charlotte moved to Grayson County and settled in Sadler in 1975. Bill worked for Knights Furniture of Sherman for 23 years, where he earned Master Technician accreditation. When the company closed its service department, Bill launched his own appliance repair business, continuing to serve Grayson, Collin, and Cooke counties for another decade before retiring.
Bill was known not only for his technical skill but also for his generosity and compassion. He was a devoted father to Cathie Freer and husband George of Denton; Terri Cork of Gainesville; Jerry Henry and wife Laura of Sadler; and the late Kenneth Henry. His grandchildren—Cynthia Flores of Florida; Debrah Fahrenkrog of Iowa; Steven Henry of Denison; Richard Henry and wife Melissa of Sherman; James Henry and wife Sarah of Frisco; Tim Henry and wife Sierra of Ardmore—and numerous great-grandchildren were a constant source of pride and joy.
He gave freely to those he loved—co-signing loans, buying groceries, paying rent, gifting vehicles—always ensuring that his children and grandchildren never went without. His pockets were often filled with treasures for his children: candy, handmade toys from spare parts at work, or curious trinkets repurposed into playthings.
Bill had a playful spirit and a sharp sense of humor. Family members fondly recall practical jokes like surprise splashes over shower curtains or April Fools' fried pies filled with newspaper instead of fruit. These moments brought laughter into their home and are remembered with affection.
When Charlotte became ill in 1992 due to viral encephalitis/meningitis resulting in brain damage, Bill cared for her faithfully every day for the next 23 years. His devotion never wavered—he saw it not as a burden but as an extension of his love.
A man deeply rooted in faith, Bill gave his life to Christ in 1968 through the encouragement of Charlotte and daughter Cathie. He served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher and trustee and gave generously to the church. Among all church activities, he especially loved fellowships—sampling dishes from every table and enjoying warm conversation with fellow believers.
Bill found joy in fishing trips, tinkering with broken items just to see if he could make them work again, watching his grandchildren play outside his window, and playing games—especially five-count dominoes.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Charlotte; son Kenneth Henry; parents Lawrence and Lois Henry; father- and mother-in-law Ralph and Dorthy Mangel; siblings Earl Henry and Joice Reed; and dear friends Clarence and Erma Reeves.
Billy Carl "Bill" Henry leaves behind a legacy defined by integrity, determination, kindness, faithfulness—and an enduring love for family that will be remembered by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who carry it forward.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 4, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Sadler Baptist Church 419 S. Main Street, Sadler. Bill enjoyed fellowship with friends and family. Please bring a covered dish and stay for food and fellowship in honor of Bill following the service.
